On March 11, 2009, Charlie Free, a.k.a. Jack Hazen, was granted parole by the Florida Parole Commission. Free will be released on March 31, 2009, but he must remain in the state.
For the last year, Don Pumphrey, Jr. has worked to get Free released and to protect his rights. Upon his arrival in Florida, Free spent months in solitary confinement and was initially denied medications.
However, Don Pumphrey, Jr. worked with the state to correct those issues and to convince the parole board to grant Free freedom.
Don Pumphrey, Jr. has secured a home and part-time job for Free until the interstate compact paperwork has been processed and approved. Until then, Free will be living in Florida and his wife will be joining him in order to help him manage his Alzheimer’s disease.
