Charles Free, a.k.a. Jack Hazen
The Law Offices of Don Pumphrey, Jr. was hired to provide legal representation for Charles Free, a man who needs the public's support to help Florida's leaders come to a quick and fair decision about Free’s clemency. Read the below information to find out what you can do to support Free’s case.
More than 32 years ago, Free stole $100 and some food from a convenience store in Pompano Beach, Fla. He was quickly apprehended and served one year of his prison sentence before escaping after a fellow inmate threatened his life.
Free was arrested in January 2008 after the Florida Cold Case Unit tracked him down in Las Vegas, Nev. He is now 62 and suffers from many health issues, including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and cancer. He has been living a law-abiding life for the last 30 years, and Free’s family and friends had no idea that he was actually Jack Hazen.
Free was extradited to Florida on April 4, 2008, and now sits in a Lake Butler medical facility while the state of Florida processes his case. Due to his health conditions, Free and his family worry that he will die in prison. He hopes that Gov. Charlie Crist and his cabinet will have mercy and offer him a reduced or commuted sentence.
Below is more information about the case. To show your support for Charles Free and his family, you can print the letter below, sign it and mail it directly to Crist’s office or submit a Proclamation Request at FLGov.com.
